The Leo Baeck Fellowship funds up to 10 international doctoral researchers annually for one year, supporting research into German-Jewish history and culture. Unique in being open to scholars at any university worldwide (not only German institutions). Run jointly by the Studienstiftung, Leo Baeck Institute London, and Leibniz-Institute Simon Dubnow Leipzig.

Detailed requirements

  • - Open to doctoral candidates of any nationality at any university worldwide
  • - Must be enrolled in a formal doctoral programme at an accredited university
  • - Excellent university degree(s)
  • - Last degree not before February 2022 (for 2026 cycle)
  • - Research project must focus on history and culture of German-speaking Jewry (any period, region, field)
  • - Fellows remain at their home institution during the fellowship
  • - Cannot combine with scholarships from third parties

Who can apply

Doctoral researchers of any nationality at any university worldwide whose dissertation focuses on German-Jewish history and culture - covering history, literature, philosophy, cultural studies from any period or region.
