Detailed requirements

  • - Not a French citizen or dual French national
  • - Maximum age 35 at the time of the 2026 bid campaign (PhD level)
  • - Application MUST be submitted by a French higher education institution
  • - 36-month scholarships only for new candidates enrolling in first year of doctoral program
  • - New candidates = not already studying in France or enrolled in a French institution
  • - Shorter PhD scholarships (12 or 18 months) may be split into multiple stays of minimum 6 months each
  • - Doctoral program must be ongoing at the French institution

Who can apply

International doctoral researchers (non-French) who are new candidates for a French doctoral program, nominated by French higher education institutions, with priority for those coming from abroad rather than already residing in France.
